The political times..

I wonder sometimes as to where our country is headed to.A pit or a cloud.I wonder sometimes, not often, for I know the next best thing people would do then is to label me as a daydreamer or a mental case. Its a feeling which comes from deep within. From everyday seeing the accusationary debates by the 'elite' group of politicians on TV.I sigh then,so hard that my dog thinks that some madman has come inside me.I mean, what are they fighting for? They already have everything right! From swanky cars to beautiful escorts to countless servants..they have everyone at their beck-and-call right??!!Maybe its the higher political ambition of wanting to steal the other politician's wife that they aspire for.Our politicians are so unlike us.Lousy and smirkful. They must always be inwardly smiling at us,the eternal fools who always get floored by their sugar coated words and elect them to represent us.The rickety journey then becomes a smooth sailing for them. How else can you explain the hours they spend in the parliament arguing upon everything irrelevant to the welfare of the people.I wonder sometimes that would it be fruitful to take my kids in the future to the lok sabha to see how the parliament functions.Wouldn't they laugh at their father for bringing them to a circus as they had come there expecting something else!Crores of taxpayers' money simply goes down the drain everyday, thanks to them.Maybe someday I will draft a full-fledged thank-you speech and give it to them.People die of malnutrition in their own districts and yet they keep on eating like gluttons.People don't have fans to provide them relief during the sweltering summer heat but the politicians have the luxury of en number of air conditions, both legal and illegal,at their homes. There are many issues which need to be highlighted. There are many issues which need to be hammered down their ignorant minds. So many that this blog would never end.Maybe someday when a person close to the politicians dies they would have a change of heart.Till then we have to keep on hoping.Hoping for what we would hardly get-'roti,kapda aur makaan'.

Don't Kick Them!!

Couple of days back I was standing on my balcony happily munching something.A security guard was patrolling beneath the apartment.A cart came down the road loaded with assorted sweetmeats. It might have been the taste or the lure of the delicacy itself which gave wheels to the legs of the security guard and he rushed towards the cart.He purchased couple of sweetmeats and started to relish them right there with the saliva dripping from his mouth.Suddenly a dog came out of nowhere. It was as frail as a stick.Might well suffice to call it a stick with four legs.It was just after noon on a hot summer day.By the look of it,I am sure the dog won't have eaten anything for a day or two.He came near to the security guard and wagged its tail vigorously. The security guard tried to ignore the animal at first but after sometime he decided that kicking was the only option. So in came the kick and struck the animal's belly. The hapless dog yelped in pain but didn't give way.Such was the effect of hunger upon it!After a few bites, the security guard got irritated and started kicking the dog again.A silent dog this time, for no apparent fault of his.The animal yelped. It yelled for help but alas, there was no one around.I couldn't take this anymore though.I rushed down the stairs and into the street with a speed that would have put even Usain Bolt to shame.I reprimanded the security guard severely and explained to him what an act of shame he had just done.He realised his mistake and apologized to me for it.I picked the wounded animal, brought it home, fed it nicely and in the night, let it go out.
This incident is not a one-off case.Right from the truck drivers to the suave businessmen, from the illiterate to the highly educated and from the funny people to the serious ones, all indulge in kicking poor animals. Not only dogs but many other animals too.I just cringe from within then and ask them just a couple of questions:1.What would have been your reaction if you would have been in the same place 2.Is it the fault of animals that they can't speak and give voice to your cruelty. Some people pay heed, others blatantly ignore.Do your work, they say.Don't interfere in our personal matter.Personal matter??Oh please!Gimme a break. They don't realise the gravity of their doing.Ignorant and maim-in-mind souls. How many times I have seen this happening I have forgotten to keep a count of.From outside the shops to inside the compunds of high-rise buildings, this act is firmly practised in society. The people who engage in such acts are virile people. The only way to sort out this mess is to reprimand and redirect the thoughts of the people towards animals.God wants peaceful existence of the human species with the other species.Who are they to go against his wishes?? If some sort of punishment like jail sentence is put forth for this crime, then I do think it can get subsided and submerged. Its high time that we start respecting animals. Not on the surface but from deep within. Its not too big an ask.Let's break the cudgels of the mind and start respecting them for what they are rather than for what they aren't.

We are a country of riches. The riches are displayed everywhere. They can be seen in the makeshift tenements of those living below gigantic flyovers or you can sight them through children who cut our paths everyday like minuscule scissors and beg for fulfillment of their stomach. The riches can easily be found in the sweeper who cleans the dust from the roads only to find it deposited on self.Oh yes,we are definitely fussed over by money.Isn't it ironical that even after more than sixty years of independence we are still at the same point where we used to be earlier. Its comical actually.Leave apart the mouth,it can split even the mind open. What have we actually got after independence.Scores of people travelling many a mile for just quenching their thirst, standing in long queues and ranting about the government machinery which seems eternally stuck like a rusted cogwheel, prices of commodities rising like satellites launched for space.Nice gifts, one must say!!We keep on telling that our society has changed for the better.Technology has saved distances and we have been now empowered with provisions which we couldn't have possibly imagined earlier. We can now shop to our heart's content sitting on the soft sofas at our home.We order shoes, clothes, jewellery, cellphones and what not!We have really succeeded in making our lives better.Or have we??
Just see the coin from a different angle now.Majority of our populace lives in absolute poverty with no access to electricity, telephone, clothing, food and shelter. The list actually is as mind boggling as some of the rocket science calculations.Have the government schemes failed here or has our generation failed in taking care of the poor and the downtrodden?? Have we become so self-indulgent that we haven't thought about the shadows that lurk beneath our bright world?? We can't always blame the society or for that matter the whole gamut of emotions and indifferent behavior that it plays on us.Rather than being a victim of it,we must try to conquer it.Time has come for our own selves to be more proactive and help the mother who goes to report the rape of her daughter at a police station and gets chided and sniggered  by the people present there.Time has come for our own heart to be steadfast in values and not waver when a bribe is offered or an injustice is done before our eyes. Its time we lend a helping hand to poor farmers who commit suicides and be a support system for the older generation who have made us what we are.The change starts from us.Let's enrich the lives of people surrounding us.In this wave of unparalleled passion and synergy, let's get soaked. I am already drenched. Are you??
